edna, I’d just like to say

edna, I’d just like to say

Thank you, that’s what I’d like to say and so ‘thank you’ I say to everyone involved with ‘edna’ and that’s a lot of people – behind the scenes and up front.  The exhibition celebration was perfect, I felt really proud and just happy to see everyone again and to celebrate your work. See you…

edna, we miss you

It’s been a while since I’ve written to you, but you are often in my thoughts. The Parkwood celebration that we had in December was a great success with plenty of new faces to share ‘edna’ with and lots of hope that we can take you to other places. We’ve all been working away in…

lifting off the page

Brian and I have been talking. We’ve been wondering about how we might turn the ‘breath’ lines into a sculpture, “lifting them off the page” and “making the lines stand up”. We thought about galvanised wire or dipping wool in resin? A similar chat with Frances was around trying different materials, we considered silly string…

You could feel the energy levels lift throughout the morning, indeed at one point I thought a couple may take off! We spent a lot of time moving and mimicking each other and all at a very slow pace, extremely concentrated at times and, I feel, tiring for the mind and muscles. The music definitely…

shadow play

I was keen to introduce something completely new to Edna, playing with shadows. I do this a lot elsewhere, with groups of people or tiny pieces of acrylic and sometimes I get to combine the both. The results are dependant on the group, it really is playing and exploring your imagination, and yes it was…

spin, spin, spin me around

What do you use your salad spinner for? Washing lettuce? Cleaning potatoes? Have you ever thought to use it for spinning paint? Today Edna experimented with consistences, colours and varying the speed, it also had the added benefit of warming the arms and shoulders. Over spinning can cause your salad spinner to take off! Beware.

back to back, mirrors and cake

Feels like this week really is the beginning, with Rebecca and I taking the lead and touting a large, green, squidgy ball, more on this later! We repeated the ‘back to back’ drawing and also mirrored each other, first in silence then to music. At times using pens and paper, others simply facing each other….

measuring up

This week we met Stephanie De’Ath, a Graduate Intern in Dance Science, from the Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music & Dance. Stephanie measured and recorded the movement, flexibility and posture of everyone taking part in edna. Every time the word ‘posture’ was mentioned we all sat bolt upright, especially me. We’ll met Stephanie again in…

fingers please

Finger casting, a taste of things to come? Not literally, the alginate smells fantastic, like mint aero but the taste? No! This really is putting your trust in me, I said you’d get your fingers back but as the alginate sets around your fingers there can sometimes be a little doubt. All’s well and the…

A great start to a new project, edna, a fresh sheet of paper, meeting new people, talking about ideas and most importantly cups of tea and cupcakes. I borrowed an idea from Helen Rootkin; a group of people, a large sheet of paper and pipettes of paint. What could possibly go wrong? Well nothing at…
